Paradise Dam future water demand study

Building Queensland, in partnership with Sunwater, is leading the development of a detailed business case investigating an upgrade of the Paradise Dam to comply with dam safety requirements. A major focus of the business case is also investigating options to ensure adequate and secure water supply to support regional growth in Bundaberg and the surrounding region.

NCEconomics have been engaged to undertake economic analysis for the business case, including a detailed assessment of future water demand in the Bundaberg Scheme. This includes water for irrigation and urban and industrial uses.

As part of this analysis, online market engagement is being used to obtain formal expressions of interest from potential customers. The information obtained from potential customers will be used to understand intentions for growth, current and future water requirements, water products, and other drivers and constraints to development.

We have consultedwith stakeholder organisations in the region to gather information and insight. However, we wish to engage more broadly across growers via a survey and market sounding exercise to determine your views and intentions on future water use. The survey for current and future irrigators has now closed.Thank you to all who participated for your valuable input.
